UPDATED - Another Bucks County Republican Bylaw issue in Milford Township

Updated: May 29, 2024

Again, the Bucks County Republican Bylaws doesn't allow a duly elected committeeman and committeewoman from taking their office. This past primary on April 23rd, two of the positions on the Republican ballot were Committeeman and Committeewoman. The Republican Party has one Committeeman and one Committeewoman per precinct. The local Committeeman and Committeewoman are elected to represent the voters at the county level. To get on the ballot, you are required to fill out a petition and ask your local Republican friends and neighbors to sign your petition. In Milford township, no one filed a petition, therefore no names for those seats were on the ballot.

Joseph Sroka and Jennifer Angelone decided to run a write-in campaign. Joseph got 37 votes and Jennifer got 36, so according to the Bucks County Board of Elections, they both won. But apparently the Bucks County Republican Committee (BCRC) chairman Pat Poprik is not going to seat them because of the BCRC bylaws says she can’t, but she can appoint them but so far she has decided not to. Why? Does it have anything to do with her leadership election on June 22nd? Is it because they are patriots and want to do more? Ask her? Tom Sassie a parliamentarian says PA election law says they should be seated. It's to my present understanding, they are not going to be seated.

And in the Brett Taylor committeeman situation, what is going to happen there? Will Brett be seated? He did get his petitions signatures, got on the ballot properly and got 85 votes , or will the write-ins be seated? (The write-ins got 95 votes). Oh but according to the bylaws of the BCRC, RULE VIII, Acticle 2, Section A, it says "the County Executive Committee shall not accept the write-in votes for this office at the election." Do you think we need to review and update the bylaws?
